1. Start with ball handling

Everyone loves watching an epic slam dunk or buzzer-beating 3-pointer, but strong handles are the foundation of any great player. Learning how to dribble is where your child should start and that should be the focus of all their practices. Kids of all ages can become skilled ball handlers by utilizing a tool like Dribbleup - it’s a virtual ball handling coach right at home.

2. Develop your weak hand

Most kids naturally favor one hand when they dribble. Once your kid is comfortable handling the ball with that hand, they should focus on the other one. Being able to dribble with both hands will make them tougher to defend. The Dribbleup app has classes specifically to help your child strengthen their weak hand. 

3. Keep your head up

A lot of kids tend to look down at the ball when they first learn how to dribble, but it’s so important that your child handles the ball with their eyes facing forward. They need to see the defenders in front of them and any of their teammates who they can pass to.

4. Practice, practice, practice

With anything, you can only get better if you practice. Even if it’s just 10 minutes a day, you’ll notice results if you practice consistently. There are tons of 10-minute classes on the Dribbleup app that you can take with the Smart Basketball.

5. Be their at-home coach

Your kid can use all the support they can get when starting a new sport.
